  1. The Swedish winner suddenly becomes the bookies hot favourite and I can see why (though I didn't see the Swedish final). It's a contemporary dance banger with a strong hook and the singer is slightly kookie (her gyrating reminds of Kate Bush in the Wuthering Heights years). But, on the night, it might crash as her voice gives way once the fireworks start. And these dance songs have a habit of fading into the distance. Hmmm. If the song becomes popular before the contest it will probably win. It it all comes down to the performance on the night, I doubt it.

Incidentally, the Russian entry is a joke, right?

  2. Well, let's see... from the 34 songs so far, I really like around 20 and only hate 5. That makes for a *very* good year in my book.
Naturally, all this is going to change after the bloodbaths of the two semi-finals, when all my favorites are going to be crushed by the evil juries and only the dullest, most boring songs (*cough* DK *cough*) will get through to the final. From then on, it'll be Worst Eurovision EVAH, again...

  3. Hmmm. Good year or bad year? By and large it is an excellent year. What might make it a bad year is the absence of most of the Oneurope team from Aberzijan. There is going to be absolute carnage in that first semi-final, which I'm relishing like you wouldn't believe. The second semi-final is well on the way there too, and we still haven't even heard all of the songs.

I repeat, it's a better than average year. Maybe three-quarters of the songs I'll quite happily listen to after the contest, which hasn't happened for a few years.

As for picking a winner, I have no idea. I just hope it isn't that over-hyped song picked on Saturday by one of the Scandinavian countries.

  4. "Worst Eurovision EVAH"? Oh, HELL yes.

    1) A quarter of the countries haven't even bothered to give us a song at ALL. And that's Actual Maths.
    2) CD quality final versions? We certainly had *those* at all previous contests. Granted, maybe not at *this* stage, but that's just making feeble excuses.
    3) Final stage shows on the actual Eurovision stage? Not a *sausage* so far. Not even one.

And that's before I even get started on the boring voting this year and total lack of envelopes. There's not been a thing happened worthy of note.

    WORST EUROVISION EVAH!
